Chemical Identification by FTIR
With Fourier-Transform InfraRed spectroscopy, the presence of various functional groups such as C-H, C=C, C=O, O-H, N-H,... can be identified which yields a characteristic spectrum of "fingerprint" of your polymer. Comparison of the peaks of the spectra against known polymers in a software database can yield a positive chemical identification of the polymer under study.

Color measurement & color difference (Delta E)
The color of a plastic sample is measured by a color measurement spectrophotometer using a sphere geometry (d/8°) and expressed in the CIELab color space (L*, a*, b*).
If more than one sample is supplied, the color difference between samples can also be determined as the Delta E value (ΔE*)

Elemental analysis on plastics by XRF
By measuring the characteristics and intensity of the emitted light upon irradiation of the sample with X-rays (so-called X-ray fluorescence or XRF), it is possible to identify and quantify which elements are present in your polymer in a non-destructive way. Although elements like Calcium (and lighter) cannot be detected due to low X-ray yields, XRF is very suitable to detect inorganic fillers and impurities such as residual catalysts or heavy metals.
